I am Your Doula

doula and midwife - Limerick support

SUPPORTING YOU AS YOU JOURNEY TO MEET YOUR BABY

I answer your call in the middle of the night.  Labour has begun.  Would you like me to meet you?

I am your doula.

I get to hospital and see you're feeling discouraged.  I hold you as those tears begin to fall.  It's okay to cry and tell me how you feel.

I am your doula.

I congratulate you on all the progress you have made so far.  Early labour IS labour and your body is working with you.

I am your doula.

I remind you to breathe slowly and deeply as those surges come.  Want to listen to your hypnobirthing tracks?  Let's create a quiet space for you.

I am your doula.

I stay with you while your partner gets you both some much-needed food.  Does he need to use the toilet and get some fresh air?  I will remain with you.  You are not alone.

I am your doula.

Want to try something different?  I encourage you to change labour positions.

I massage your back as those surges roll in.  Does that position feel good?  I trust your intuition.

I am your doula.

I help lighten the mood between contractions and you, your partner and I laugh over some of our conversation!  What are you looking forward to most about meeting your baby?  I'd love to know and I'm here to listen.

I am your doula.

I encourage you + your partner to sleep after being awake for almost a full day.  We soften your birth space and I give you both the privacy you need.

I am your doula.

I tell your partner it's ok for them to feel exhausted and express that to me.  Labour is emotional and physically demanding for them too!  I'm here for them just as much as I'm here for you.

I am your doula.

I breathe with you and hold your hand when things start to become more intense.  You ask will you be able to "handle" when transition nears. I encourage you to take one surge at a time, deciding what feels right for you.

I am your doula.

The sounds of your labour have changed.  Your moans are primal and deep.  I reassure your partner that all of these signs appear when baby's arrival is near.

I am your doula.

Your partner looks at me with tears in his eyes- amazed by your strength.  I silently nod and commend his confidence and ability to comfort you.

I am your doula.

You have turned inward now, getting into the zone of birth.  What's this incredible pressure?  The urge to push!

Your baby arrives so soft and so sweet.  I stand back in awe of another family and a baby I'm delighted to meet.

I am your doula.
