I Wasn't Expecting That- welcoming a new baby

welcome new baby Limerick Ireland

I wasn't expecting I'd conceive so quickly.

I wasn't expecting the sickness to come so rapidly, so intensely.

I wasn't expecting to connect so deeply with the moon, stars and sky during your pregnancy.

I wasn't expecting I would be so impatient near the end- where are you?

I wasn't expecting early labour to be so long... especially the fourth time around.

I wasn't expecting I'd sleep during labour- such a relief.

I wasn't expecting my body to jump from ease and laughter to intensity in thirty minutes.

I wasn't expecting the saying to be true.  I did leave my body to collect your soul amongst the stars.

I wasn't expecting I'd want your daddy by my side through every second of labour.

I wasn't expecting I would be so annoyed by even the lowest whispers.

I wasn't expecting the toilet to be a labouring place that felt so comfortable.

I wasn't expecting you to arrive into this world so suddenly.

I wasn't expecting you to turn your head so many times as you eased out of me!

I wasn't expecting your eyes to be open wide, gazing toward the sky- the place where your soul had spent so much time.

I wasn't expecting your arrival to make my heart grow so much I could barely stand it.

I wasn't expecting to take the most glorious nap with you in my own bed when you were only two hours old.

What DID I expect?  That from the moment I saw you, I would love you with every piece of my being.

You're my little love, my lovey dove, my love bug, my Graham baby.

I don't know why you chose me to be your mommy... but I'm grateful.
